Currambene Creek Bridge – Headstock Strengthening
Engineered Access for Complex Bridge Strengthening Works
KJ Industrial Scaffolding was engaged by Transport for NSW to deliver a full-service scaffold solution for the Currambene Creek Bridge headstock strengthening project. The works formed part of a critical infrastructure upgrade designed to improve the long-term structural performance of the bridge.
Our scope included the design, supply, installation, and dismantle of a complex hung scaffold system to support strengthening works to multiple bridge headstocks. The solution was engineered to span multiple piers beneath the northbound bridge structure, enabling safe and efficient access for specialist trade contractors working overhead.
Using a Ringlock-based system, the scaffold was designed to deliver high load capacity, stability, and adaptability in a highly constrained environment, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and minimising disruption to traffic and surrounding operations.
Key Challenges :
- Working beneath an active transport corridor
- Spanning multiple bridge piers with limited access zones
- Supporting heavy-duty structural strengthening works
- Maintaining minimal disruption to traffic and surrounding operations
- Complex staging requirements across a live infrastructure asset
Our Contribution :
- Full design, engineering, installation, and dismantle of hung scaffold systems
- Multi-span scaffold configuration to access multiple headstock locations
- Use of Ringlock system for high-capacity, engineered load performance
- Integration of safety systems including edge protection and controlled access zones
- End-to-end project delivery with consistent on-site coordination and compliance
Project Outcomes :
The scaffold solution enabled safe, reliable, and continuous access for headstock strengthening works across all required bridge sections. Delivered on time and to specification, the system supported efficient project execution while maintaining strict safety and operational standards.
KJ Industrial Scaffolding successfully delivered a technically complex access solution that allowed critical strengthening works to proceed without disruption to the broader transport network, reinforcing our capability in major bridge infrastructure projects.
