Delivering efficient reline solutions for critical furnace upgrades

KJ has been engaged by BlueScope Steel to deliver the entire scaffolding package for the No. 6 Blast Furnace Reline Project — a major $1 billion shutdown spanning three years at the Port Kembla Steelworks. This project represents one of the most significant industrial relines undertaken in Australia and plays a critical role in extending the operational life of the steelworks.

Since commencement, KJ has provided a comprehensive and scalable workforce to support the evolving demands of the project. This has included experienced scaffolders, dedicated yard crews, on-site supervisors, in-house drafters, and project management personnel, all operating under established systems and procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent delivery. Our ability to resource the project across multiple stages has been central to maintaining continuity and meeting the complex scheduling requirements of a live industrial environment.

Throughout the reline, KJ continues to design, engineer, and deliver complex access solutions to support demolition, installation, and refurbishment works associated with the new furnace. These solutions are developed in close collaboration with BlueScope and other key contractors, ensuring access systems are tailored to site constraints, sequencing requirements, and safety standards, while supporting productivity and minimising disruption to surrounding operations.

Drawing on our successful delivery of the No. 5 Blast Furnace Reline in 2009, KJ brings a deep understanding of large-scale industrial shutdowns and long-term reline programs. This experience underpins our ability to manage significant volumes of scaffold, coordinate large multidisciplinary teams, and maintain consistent performance over extended timeframes. The No. 6 reline further reinforces KJ’s proven capability to not only provide scaffolding services, but to plan, resource, and manage complex industrial projects with reliability, discipline, and operational control, through to the targeted July 2026 completion.
